"I concurr... the view was spectacular"
I had never heard of Carcassonne until i asked my boss (a wise worldy traveller) where would be good to go that was a little off the beaten track... immediately he went to the tourist infomation site on the net and brought up a fabulous picture of la cite at night and i was awestruck. I used the Tourist information site to book the hotel as they were doing a 2 nights for the price of one offer on some hotels and after looking at the reviews on Tripadvisor i chose this hotel. It is situated in between the medieveal town and the new town so it is easy walking distance to both. I chose a panaoramic room overlooked the river and the castle... the room itself was fine, the whole hotel could do with a refurb and the pool on the top floor was never used by anyone to my knowledge. Also, they have a restaurant on the top floor with a bar .. no-one speaks english and it was hard to get served.
Im not one to go to places and expect people to speak English but in Carcassonne they do not like to make an effort at all, which i found quite hard going (especially ordering food). There is a beautiful restaurant i think in french called The Stables and it is actually in stables! Authentic food, highly priced but if you can translate the menu i'm sure it would be wonderful.
In the old city itself - Dont get done in the sweet shop.. we got a free sweet tin and the assistant made out that we could put whatever we wanted in it for a discounted price. Being greedy we filled it to the hilt and were charged £25 for a few biscuits and sweets (the only thing we bought the whole weekend!).
On the whole we stayed for 2 nights and it was enough time to sightsee, shop and fill our bellies. Definately a good place to go for a quick weekend as Ryan Air Flights are inexpensive too.

"Incredible View"
Have just returned from a 2 day break at the Hotel des Trois Couronnes in Carcassonne. The hotel is perfectly sighted over looking the river, the old stone bridge and La Cite. As Reception was being refurbished we were checked in at what was probably the trade entrance, but were welcomed and shown up to our room although we were 2 hours early! It is definitely worth booking a room with balcony and view, as the view of La Cite at night is amazing. We would also strongly recommend the restaurant, we had a superb meal for 21 euros including a bottle of wine, the presentation was first class.

"cant beat the view!!"
we stayed for 2 nights , it was basic, clean and room was nothing to write home about... but the view!
we had a balcony overlooking the river and facing the cite.
this hotel is very central and easy to get to from the airport, the rstaurant is great for gazing at the ramparts and cite in general, also carcassonne town are doing a special until end of march , so go to [--]
the way it's called; "A great weekend in town". Hotels participating in the campaign invite you to take advantage of two nights for the price of one, whether you arrive on Friday or on Saturday.
just contact the hotel directly to reserve your room, and don't forget to mention the "Great weekend in town" campaign and then confirm your reservation by email. You can reserve within as little as 24 hours ahead of your arrival, depending on vacancies

"Excellent"
Best in town. Excellent views over the citadel, comfortable room with balcony. Restaurant on 4th floor with top view and best of French food. Eat here even if you stay somewhere else.
Staff friendly and a relaxed atmosphere, nothing too much trouble and very reasonable prices.
